Indian Art and Design Educators Association

The Indian Art and Design Educators Association(IADEA) is a non-profit started in 2018 with the goal of providing learning and knowledge sharing opportunities for art educators across the country. Our members are over 350 art educators from 28 cities in India – these teachers collectively impact over 2,00,000 school children. Our knowledge partner include: Artreach India, Learning Matters, Centre for Teacher Accreditation, Nalanda Way, RainbowFish Educational Trust, Slam Out Loud, The Pomegranate Workshop, Tree Learning, Chennai Photo Biennale, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya (CSMVS museum), Foundation for Indian Contemporary Art and Kiran Nadar Museum of Art. The IADEA annual national conference is a shared platform attended by over 250 art educators held virtually in 2020, that was held first At the Piramal Museum in Mumbai in 2018 and then in Delhi at the India International Center in 2019. We host smaller local workshops in various cities which have now also moved online because of the pandemic.

Artroom Hero

We spoke to Art educators across the country and found the need of the hour to be engaging art lessons that have been tried and tested in an Indian context. We have put out a call for lessons and the response has been amazing. Artroom Hero is a collection of over 200 of the best art lesson plans shared with us by our Knowledge Partners and art educators from all across India. We hope this free lesson library will be a useful resource to teachers and will keep growing.

Meet the Team

We are a passionate team of volunteers who believe that art teachers have the power to open doors to powerful worlds of imagination and creativity for children. This virtual lesson library is created by the combined efforts of – our in-house team, our teacher members and our knowledge partners – do take a minute to click the links and read more about the people behind the library.

Sara Vetteth

Founder

Sara Vetteth is the Founder and the Principal Trustee of the Indian Art And Design Educators Association. She is passionate about bringing Art and Design into schools. She has earned a Masters degree in Design and Technology from Parsons School of Design, New York, where she went on to teach undergraduate and graduate classes, and was invited as an artist in residence at the Bauhaus in Germany. Notably, she is the Founder of RainbowFish Studio, an organisation that provides a dynamic Visual Arts curriculum to thousands of students in schools across India. A lifelong learner, she attended the Harvard Project Zero Institute in the summer of 2019, where she worked towards developing a pedagogical framework for creativity and learning

Sandhya Gopinath

Content Curator

Sandhya Gopinath is passionate about teaching teenagers and young adults. High School Visual Arts Educator at an International School, Chennai, she has 11 years of teaching experience in international schools and other art institutions and has, IB, AP and IGCSE accreditations. Sandhya has a Master’s degree from Lasalle College of Art and Design, Singapore and has been the Visual Arts teacher at the American International School Chennai. She has held solo exhibitions and participated in group exhibitions in In India and abroad. Sandhya represented India at the Salon Des Beaux-Arts Lyon (France) 2007 and 2011.

Sayali Mundye

Content Curator

Sayali Mundye is an independent curator and a cultural manager. Over the last 7 years, she has worked with various art organisations, including public and private museums like Piramal Museum of Art, IADEA, BDL Museum, Sir JJ School of Art and others. She has curated exhibitions, led large scale art projects, developed programmes and managed partnerships. Sayali is the recipient of four prestigious fellowships: Curatorial Intensive South Asia 2022, Samuel Kress Foundation for Art Curator Conference 2021, Museum Curation by the Centre for Art & Archaeology of AIIS and Cultural Management by Goethe Institute. She has successfully led projects like The Public Art Programme and Spotlighters. Sayali has a BFA from Rachana Sansad and writes professionally about the art and culture sector in India. Her articles have been published in the Art India Magazine and The Method Magazine.

Niranjana Jawahar

Director of Communications

Niranjana Jawahar, is a designer currently working as director of communications across Studio Serendip, Rainbow Fish Studios and IADEA. Niranjana has an undergraduate degree in fine art from Central Saint Martins with a focus on functional art. She went on to work at House of Kotwara as a designer under the guidance of Meera Muzaffar Ali. She has developed an appreciation for fine art and craft and has an growing interest in digital media and marketing.

Gobinath M

Operations and Admin

Gobinath is Head of Business development and Operations at Rainbowfish Studio, he has been in the educational field for more than a decade implementing technology and ensuring customer delight. He has earned a Master degree in Business Administration from Madras University. He is also a social enthusiast, teaching technology to poor/needy student and believes that technology should reach to everyone.

Harini Aiana

Graphic Designer

Harini is an interdisciplinary designer from Chennai, and a graduate of Industrial Design from Srishti Institute of Art, Design and Technology in Bangalore. She enjoys working with various media, ranging from traditional art, to textiles, to 3D modelling, to solve problems and bring stories to life. She has an independent practice as a graphic designer, where she develops brand identity and packaging solutions.
